Who Makes The Best Guitar Strings ?

Each top guitar player, has his own favorite set of guitar strings.
So what are the best guitar strings used by the some of the top artist in the recording industry today.

1.) Eric Claption - endorses Martin guitar strings - .012 to .054 light gauge.
These strings are called " Clapton's Choice"...and are phosphor bronze guitar strings.

And for Eric's fender stratocaster guitar - Eric main choice is , Ernie Ball Guitar strings , gauge size - .10 to 46
_______________________________________________

2.) Jordan Rivers - His favorite acoustic guitar strings as of Jan 2008 as used in the studio and on the road are as follows.
On his favorite 3 year old Ovation guitar called the ,1777 LX Ovation Legend Guitar,Jordan Rivers uses Martin Acoustic SP guitar Strings, and the gauge size is Light Gauge - .012 to.054 and these strings are also called 80/20 Bronze guitar strings.
Jordan says, my ovation guitar with these strings sound better than any Martin or Taylor Guitar made today. I don't think I'd play anything but Ovation guitars, they are the best sounding guitars ever made. But you must use the right strings on them.

Jordan Rivers also owns the collectors Ovation Deep Bowl 1717 acoustic guitar in excellent condition that's over 28 years old. And he also uses these same Martin Guitar Strings on the older guitar.
Last rumor was Jordan Rivers, best quote insurance, on his 1717 Ovation was near $10,000.00. Most likely some of that price is because he's famous.

On both of Jordan Rivers electric guitars he uses,D'addario Chromes, these are high finished ribbon wound jazz guitar strings,He uses the light gauge .011 to .050.
Jordan Rivers electric guitars are as follows, a Gibson Les Paul Guitar Custom, called the Black-beauty and his Epiphone Joe Pass Jazz Guitar.

3.)John Mayer has his own guitar named after him now - called the, Fender John Mayer Signature Stratocaster Eletric Guitar.

It comes with vintage guitar hardware. Made with an African Rosewood Fingerboard and Maple neck. The finger board has a 9.5 in radius and the body is made of Alder. This guitar is a 21 fret guitar to match John Mayers exact specs.
You can view this guitar at the ,Guitar Center or Musician's Friend Online or at http://www.musiciansfriend.com/. This guitar lists at $2100.00 and can be purchased at the Musicans Friend for less than $1,600.00.
This guitar should become a collectors and if you purchase one, then in a few years I'd get a good Online Insurance Quote on this guitar.
At Least this is not like getting , an auto insurance quote. But it can save you a lot of money in the long run ,with all the thefts these days.
One point to remember, my home was broken into and I received a very good cash settlement because I had a good insurance company.

Anyways getting back to Johns Guitar and his Strings......
This is the same guitar you may have seen, when John Mayer was a special guest guitarist at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival, this was filmed at Eric's 2004 Crossroads concert which is on recorded DVD. This same guitar was also used on John Mayers Concert named - Any Given Thrusday on DVD also.
The strings used are Fender Standard Tension ST250R, Nickel Plated Steel, Gauges: (.010, .013, .017, .026, .036, .046), p/n 0730250206.

And in the newer 2007 Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival , John Mayer was a guest again playing a different guitar this time. Playing John Mayer Hit Songs GRAVITY and also BELIEF.

The Top 3 Acoustic Guitars

So you want to buy a great acoustic guitar?
But don't really know what to get?
Well stay tuned as I tell you my Top 3 acoustic Guitar Picks.

1.) The Ovation 1777 LX Legend Acoustic-Electric Guitar ( List Price $1999.00 ) has a fast action neck almost like an electric guitar neck, great sound and perfectly balanced tone. This guitar is my Top Pick as the best guitar in the world to own because of playability and price,it just doesn't get any better than this folks. The electronics are second to none, hands down it sounds better than a Martin or Taylor guitars plugged in .And unplugged it also sounds better than the New Martins or Taylor guitars and priced about $1000.00 lower in cost. Right now ,Musician's Friend the Online Music store has this guitar on sale for only $1,399.00. It's a deal that can't be beat anywhere.
One point I would like to make, Ovation sells the 1777 LX with cheap sounding D'Addario guitar strings. These strings make the guitar sound not as full. But once you but some Martin Light Gauge Bronze SP strings on this baby, look out......it has that tone that made,Jim Croce famous. If you don't believe listen to the DVD called," Have You Heard Jim Croce Live". That Ovation Guitar he played , sounds better still than the best digital recorded guitars today. And that was way back in the early 1970's.
Also when you put the Martin Strings on besure to have the guitar tech adjust the neck for the heavier Martin Strings. Once that is done, you have maybe the best sounding guitar for the money in the world.

2.)Martin DC-Aura Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar ( list price $3,650.00 )
This guitar can do it all, the sound is a good as the best Ovation, maybe even better, but for the price the Ovation still wins, and Ovations neck is faster. Yet this guitar is built for greatness , It has awesome electronics, but I feel the plug in sound is a little modular or digital beyond the point of sounding as a true acoustic guitar. It has the sound of a Amp Cab Modeling syste like you'd find in some Guitar pedals today. These are studio guitar sounds that are built into the guitar, yet it is awesome. Many of you may enjoy this guitar more than the Ovation because of the Martin name, yet for the cost, I'd still go with the Ovation LX 1777.

3.) Taylor 810 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar ( list price $3148.00 )
this is my 3rd Pick, Taylor makes great guitars, and this baby has great balance and sustain, excellent bass response, perfect tone,Spruce Top and India Rosewood back and sides. The only thing I don't care for is Taylor has no electroic system for this guitar and in truth Taylor guitars with electronics need to be improved on there control knobs, there's no way to really tell where your settings are.And they are on the top front of the guitars. But like I said this guitar comes without electronics.
All these guitars were designed by pure genius, it took more than a online computer science degree to build great guitar's like these. These guitars are a work of art !!

We are pleased to bring you Guitar Tips,Techniques and Studio Recording Arts info over the next few weeks. As Jordan Rivers has agreed to help inspire us with his teachings. Below is the first installment.

How To Use

Moveable Box Scale Patterns On Guitar

By Jordan Rivers

Just as many top guitar players use chord theory and moveable bar chords to travel up and down the guitar neck, there are also what we call moveable guitar scale patterns.
Another name is moveable Guitar Box Patterns.
These scale patterns make it easier to see the neck of the guitar while playing lead guitar.

At first it may seem hard to learn these patterns because you must memorize them, but once you do then the fun begins to happen.
Many great jazz guitar players, and studio musicians in the record industry, use these moveable patterns because it's fast to improvise with them.
Anyone playing lead guitar in rock, blues or jazz music has a tremedous upper hand if they know these lead scal patterns.

To use these patterns correctly you need to know the common tones in scales and the key you're playing in. Common tones are the root - 3rd - 5th & 7th notes of most scales. To make it simple, these notes are your starting and stopping points when doing scale runs on the guitar.

Yet so much more can be done, than to just use these for just scales runs.
The more mature guitar player will learn to play these scales patterns inside and out, at the same time creating and inventing new hot licks.Great guitarist may spend years doing this.
It's been said that these 5 scale patterns can become a life time study.
And I don't know if anyone who has ever learn it all, and I am talking the best in the world here.
Please remember the best guitar players in the world always keep improving, and they always keep looking for something new , maybe a new approach to playing the guitar, or a new sound.

A real mature guitarist, should be able to create & invent many new hot licks and run scales inbetween melodies and hot guitar licks.

And the best guitarist take it to the next step and mixing chording and hot chord vocings in solo leads.

Below are 5 of my favorite moveable scale patterns, they are all major scale patterns with the half steps between these notes in the scales... 3-4 & 7-8 for Major scale Keys.....and 1/2 steps between 2-3 & 6-7 notes of the scale for minor the minor scal key.

To find the related Major key to it's minor key....please read on.

Example G A B C D E F# G is the scale pattern for the G major key....but by taking the same notes and altering or re-arranging the notes into a different order starting with the E note...we get and Em key..... such as E F# G A B C D E.......take a close look at the notes........they are all the same notes, just in a differnet order.
The Key of Em is the related key to G major.......so the scale patterns work together perfectly.

Now if you don't know how to find the relate minor key to a major, well it's easy....
take the root note and count 6 notes from the root and you have the minor key.
So if we take the Key of C major .......and count up 6 notes we get an Am or A minor Key.....Look at these notes and count from C..... C D E F G A.....as I said the 6th note from the root is the related minor key to a Major key.

Now with these movable scale patterns, you simple can use each scale pattern for both, Major and minor keys....smiply adust your common tones of where you'll be starting and stopping on.

Each pattern below works for both major and minor scales.

Many of you may already play 5 noted pentatonic box patterns, but these scale patterns below are far move advanced than the pentatonic boxes and will take much longer to learn.

To use the scale patterns below correctly you should already be able to read music and understand a bit of guitar theory.Because you must know where the 1 st - 3rd - 5th and 7th of a scales and also understand how chords are built.

And understand it will take take to get your cordination in using these scales.
Once you learn these patterns you can link them all together to cover the full neck of the guitar for almost any key you play in.

Digitech RP300 Modeling Guitar Processor
&
The New Digitech RP350 Guitar Modeling Processor

By Jordan Rivers

A few years ago I purchased the RP300 for use in concerts and recording.
And I considered that a very good move on my part.
I was able to plug my electric or acoustic guitars through this modeling processor and get a good clean sound no hiss or static of any kind with any effect in the world that I wanted with world class studio sound.
Simply put it was AWESOME on eletric guitar. NO more connecting eq's,reverbs,Flange, chorus,Fuss Box and about a million other things.
This RP300 could do it all.And I could taylor program ever inch of it, with the onboard computer processor. Wow....I was in guitar heaven !!

Also for the acoustic guitar it has a great digital sound that is perfect for concerts.
Just besure you have a great guitar amp.
Even to this day I still use it and it's 5 years old now.

THis unit is great for concerts, studio recording, or practicing, even comes with a stereo headphone jack.
Now If your on the road doing concerts day in and day out ,this baby can really do the job.
Just plug your guitar straight into the input of the RP300 and then connect the output of the RP300 into your amp.
One point I'd like to make, if your in concert a lot but 2 of these units.
I have had to repair my unit 3 times. They were just small repairs to the foot pedals only, but the unit is still worth the price.

My main reason for using the RP300 was because it delivers the perfect taylored sounds I need quick and fast.
It is totally programmable, with on onboard computer, and I love the fact, that I can change the settings to what I really want.
Presets are ok, but I love to taylor make my sounds and effects to get that perfect touch.

Also....I use a Fender Tube amp and want the best sound I can get on my electric guitars, with the RP300 no more did I have to use an eq system, there's no more need for Chorus boxes,Flange, reverb, digital delay, echo tap delay,Fuss or anything else.
This modeling stomp box came loaded.
When ever I did a concert I could just plug hook up my guitars, plug into the box, make a few minor adjustments for the room equalization depending on how big the room is.
And BANG...I am on way way. NO more hours setting up and doing sound checks.
I could save my energy, for the concert.
The only sound check I do now ,is for my vocals when I sing or,for the guys in my band.
But my time is saved on the guitar with the RP300.
Digitech no longer sells this, but I have seen a few on ebay. The price I paid was $325.00 a few years ago, but now a used one can go for only $100.00 on e-bay.

The Future is here.......It's The New and Improved RP 350 !!

Now comes the new RP350, it's loaded with 118 total modeling sounds, that the pro's use. This baby comes with a 400% increase in power over the older RP300.It can be used with interfacing to digital Multitrack recorders, like Tascam,Fostex,Pro Tools,DAW Software, and many others. You'll get the sounds also that many great guitar players use in their concerts, you'll get their exact settings.
It's hard to imagine anything better than the RP300 for use in concerts and recording.
I have to say that when I record I use the RP300 on electric guitars, and it sounds great on acoustic guitars also.

But I must be up front and tell you, when I record acoustic guitar, I go for the real tone of an acoustic guitar.
And I run and plugin from my acoustic guitars by direct injection straight into a digital Tascam Multitrack recording unit to get the sound of the guitar from the inside of my Ovation Guitars.
And to capture the sound of the outside of the guitar and the sound of the guitar pick,I also run a mic to a studio mixer, from my acoustic guitar to a microphone in front of my I position the mic about 8 inches from the front of the guitar hole.
I also will say.....different acoustic guitars need to have the mic placed at different ranges from the guitar....it all depends on how low your guitar is.
I've seen acoustic guitars with Microphones, 2 inches to 9 inches away from the guitar.
But when recording an acoustic guitar I try to get the right blend between the guitar Pluged in and between the guitar with the Mic on it.

Why do I do it both ways at the same time?

Well it's simple, I want the full sound from inside the guitar, but I also want the natural sound of the guitar and the sound of the pick when it sweeps across the strings when playing rhythms.
I also do this when I record the acoustic guitar leads.
Just take a listen to my CD some time and see what I am taking about.
There so much power in the New RP350 it comes loaded as I told you.
You will not regret owning this. But remember as good as it gets...you still must be able to play the guitar....it won't do that for you.And real skill & training is the key to top guitar playing styles and techniques !!

Also I have a recording studio, loaded with all the best pro equipment that I could afford,I am not a millionaire, but I must have near $50,000 in equipment, and yet I still keep comming back to the RP300, because I love it.....and the Rp350 is even better.

Below you'll find a list of a few of the companies that have their digtial technology installed in the RP350
They did a great job.
This baby lists only at $309.95.
But I saw one online tonight for only $199.95 at http://www.musiciansfriend.com/

MXR DynaComp, TC Electronic, EH Electric Mistress, EH Small Stone, Boss Octaver, Unicord Univibe, Guyatone Overdrive, ProCo Rat, MXR, Boss Metal Zone,Fender Opto Tremolo, Vox Bias Tremolo, Maestro Echoplex, Fender Twin Reverb, EMT, Fender Tweed Deluxe, Fender Bassman, Fender Blackface

Online Insurance Quote,For Guitars & Musical Instruments

Online Insurance Quote, for Musical Instruments

By Sally Anderson

Did You know you can buy Musical Instrument Insurance Coverage Online?
And you can do this from anywhere world wide.
In this world are many great collectors guitars,Amps, violins, cello's,Harps, everything from classical music to rock guitars may need to be insured.

What I am talking about, is a highly appraised instrument such as an older collectors model, or it can be a new musical instrument but worth thousands of dollars.
If they become lost, stolen or damaged you want to be sure that you're instrument is protected.

There are many great Insurance companies online or on the internet, that can give you a best quote,or a, online insurance quote.

Also you need a company whom you can trust with premiums and claims, and claims that can be paid out in your own local currency.
The best cash settlement is what you're looking for and you really need a top company who is going pan out the money and look out for your needs.
There's no use paying for insurance if you're going to get burned by that company in the future.

Their are many great companies online who have clients from all over the world and they specialize in insurance quotes and coverage for musical instruments of all kinds.
Companies like MusicGuard,Farmers Insurance Online,Lark,Anderson Group for Acoustic Guitar Insurance Program, their company who carries their insurance is called OneBeacon Insurance Group.
I found that a $125.00 premium can cover as much as $19,000 of coverage on guitars and other instruments.

My main instrument, that I love to play is a Taylor guitar so I will show you an example of guitar prices and why you should insure a great guitar.

Below is a list of Eric Claptons guitar's that he sold on auction not long ago.

1.)Fender Stratocaster ,"Blackie" Value as sold on auction $959,500.00 to the Guitar Center.
2.)1956 Fender Stratocaster, "Brownie" $497,500.00.
3.)1964 Gibson ES-335 $847,500.00
4.)1939 Martin 000-42 Acoustic Guitar close to $800,000.00
5.)1960 Gibson Less Paul Standard $200,000.00

I once tried to buy the Elvis Black Gibson guitar, which was 1 of a kind made for Elvis by Gibson, but the price on ebay went over $60,000.00 and I was priced out.
But it shows you what a great guitar own by a famous singer can go for.

Also I should say a little about brand new guitars also, with a few of the top brands of Martin,Ovation,Taylor,Breedlove acoustic guitars and top electric guitars, like Gibson,Fender who are making reissued guiitars of the old versions starting between $1,600.00 to 30,000.00 you may want to do a rethink about how much that guitar is really worth. If you're like some of my friends who own 4 or 5 guitars and each costing $2500,00 to 5000.00 then you might want to think about protecting those guitars, you have a small goldmine invested there.

Hope this article has informed you.
